In a
matrix environment is common to see practitioners, some without formal PM
academy, declaring a project is completed.
Once you complete the execution stage, the project should be ready to go
forward to the Closing Stage (Closing Process Group).
As PM
practitioner, you must satisfy your sponsor and stakeholders (customer)
expectations and needs to have a successful project. Before you can declare a project completed,
ensure your customer is satisfied with project deliverables and accept them.
It
is embarrassing to face a customer asking about unfulfilled requirements.
Consider the following recommendations to complete a successful project:
- Be sure to understand project requirements. They should be clearly documented in the Project Plan
- Agree with your customer the acceptance criteria for the project deliverables
- Deliver each “deliverable” once is completed. Ask your customer for deliverable approval/acceptance sign off
Once
all project deliverables are completed and accepted by the customer, the
project execution is completed and ready to go forward for closing.
